1 - Basecoat Refinishing Reduction Description Is your insurance company fighting your body shop on payment for repairs for partial refinish of basecoat or ignoring compensation related to a number of specific and necessary refinish procedures? This is important when considering situations when additional labor and materials beyond those specifically published in the “database guide” by an information provider are necessary to obtain a high-quality and proper repair. Automotive topcoat finishes today are predominantly basecoat/clearcoat topcoats, in which the topcoat is applied in two layers, a first layer of a pigmented basecoat composition and a second layer of a clearcoat composition...
The main problem arises with the fact that on a New Panel, there are actually less procedures required to Refinish than applying and refinishing a Repaired Panel, even though the actual basecoat application on a Repaired Panel may be less. The obvious reason for this comes from the term 'Blend Within Panel'. Meaning on a New Panel there would be no dent to repair and blend. On a Repaired Panel with a dent only partial Panel basecoat application would be necessary but considerable more procedures to 'blend within Panel' would be required. Yet many insurers are reducing allowed times to Refinish a Repaired Panel simply based on the fact that a Repaired Panel doesn't require a full basecoat application. Bottom line is, on a Repaired Panel the body shop is being paid less to do more work and that cost could be past on to the customer. Most repairers and paint manufacturers argue that the logic for deduction in time by Insurance carriers for Body Shops to do a 'Repaired' Panel is flawed based on estimating database procedures and refinish guidelines <see news releases on this subject>. In an effort to better help Network Auto Body's customers and insured Motorists all over, we offer this section as support for your claim for Fair, Reasonable and proper coverage and to help address this rather 'backward' argument being made by various insurance carriers of late.
